Small fruit for salads
Yellow Pear has a narrow neck and a mild, sweet flavor. Sungold is rounder, orange, and known for fruity flavor. Halve both for a bowl where their different shapes are easy to see.
Larger fruit for slices
Kellogg’s Breakfast is an orange beefsteak described as sweet. Gold Medal is a yellow-and-red bicolor with firm flesh and a mild, sweet character. Try either on toast or on a platter of broad slices.
Color is a starting point
Choose color for how you want a dish to look, then use individual variety descriptions to explore flavor. A yellow or orange skin does not tell you exactly how sweet a particular fruit will taste. Growing conditions and ripeness still affect the experience.
